The Rapido Trains UK OO Gauge Thomas Hill Sentinel Rebuild 4wDH represents the distinctive diesel-hydraulic locomotives developed by Thomas Hill Limited from Sentinel steam locomotive chassis. The original locomotives were extensively rebuilt, retaining their chassis, wheels and final transmission, while replacing the steam equipment with a Rolls-Royce six- or eight-cylinder diesel-hydraulic engine, torque converter and gearbox.
The model captures the characteristic appearance of these rebuilds, including the completely new body and cab, buffer beams and buffers. The prototype’s driver-focused improvements are also represented in the distinctive design, with enhanced visibility and practical features such as recessed steps and side skirts.
Available in a variety of colourful liveries, the OO Gauge model is designed as a highly detailed representation of these compact industrial shunters, which saw service across a wide range of industries and locations throughout the UK.
Underneath the detailed exterior, the model features a smooth-running mechanism and NEM 362 coupler pockets, providing compatibility with standard model railway coupling equipment. An E24 decoder socket is fitted for straightforward digital conversion.
The locomotives are available in both DCC-Ready and DCC Sound-Fitted versions. Sound-fitted examples include a factory-installed speaker, while all versions are equipped with a MoPower stay-alive capacitor to help maintain reliable running through minor interruptions in electrical contact.
Together, the detailed body, compact four-wheel-drive chassis, multiple livery options and modern digital features make the Thomas Hill Sentinel Rebuild a faithful OO Gauge representation of this unusual class of industrial diesel-hydraulic shunter.
