Peckett & Sons of Bristol built a strong reputation for producing reliable industrial locomotives, particularly saddle tanks in a range of standard and bespoke designs. One such custom locomotive was Works No. 1030, built in 1904 as a 2-foot gauge 0-4-0 saddle tank for the Mendip Granite & Asphalt Company. Originally named Cranmore, it featured a compact design with a saddle tank, open cab, and 7 x 10-inch cylinders. Before delivery, however, it was modified with an enclosed cab, renamed Gamecock, and repainted into Peckett’s standard green livery. This design later became known as the Cranmore Class, with further examples built in small numbers and exported worldwide, often with slight variations.

Rapido Trains UK’s 009 gauge model brings this distinctive locomotive to life with a strong focus on detail, performance, and customisation. The model is available in a wide range of liveries, including Gamecock and several colourful interpretations inspired by narrow-gauge practice, offering variety for modellers.

Mechanically, the model is designed for smooth and reliable operation. It is offered in both DCC-ready and DCC-fitted versions, featuring six wiper pickups for consistent electrical contact and a compact coreless motor with a flywheel for refined running performance.

A key feature of the model is its user-friendly design. The body is removable via four easily accessible screws, providing straightforward access to the 6-pin DCC socket and simplifying maintenance or decoder installation. Rapido has also prioritised flexibility by including a comprehensive detail pack. This contains a variety of optional, easy-to-fit parts such as dumb buffers, vacuum brake equipment, a chimney-mounted lubricator, and front steps.

With its combination of fine detailing, multiple livery options, and extensive customisation features, the Cranmore class model offers both accuracy and versatility for narrow-gauge enthusiasts.

This ready-to-run model in 009 gauge is produced by Rapido Trains UK.
