Prototype Info
In 1948 mining engineers ‘Hugh Wood and Co. Ltd’ and locomotive builders ‘Hudswell, Clarke and Co. Ltd’ formed an alliance to design and build a range of diesel locomotives for use in the rapidly modernising coal industry in the United Kingdom and beyond.
Our kit, a collaboration between Planet Industrials and Narrow Planet, represents an underground example of the smaller 68hp 0-4-0 model, powered by a Gardner engine with conditioned exhaust and extensively flame proofed. The prototype evolved over the years and the kit represents a typical example in terms of design style and features.
Further information on the prototype can be found on the Durham Mining Museum website.
